Alicia Keys, Carrot Cake, and Making Your Money Work Like You Do
Yoyo’s Top Five Volume 3: Weekly Guide to Becoming Legendary
Welcome back, Legends.
You know I love a good list. Not the kind that tells you what to do, but the kind that lets you peek into what caught my attention this week… the moments, the finds, the little things that stayed with me so much that I needed to share it with you.
Here’s what’s been living in my head rent free.
#1 - Alicia Keys at Grand Central Terminal… Because Why Not
One minute it’s your regular commute, the next minute Alicia Keys is sitting at a pink baby grand piano inside Grand Central Terminal… and suddenly nobody remembers where they were going.
She was there as part of Apple’s 50th anniversary celebration, performing just steps away from the Apple Store tucked inside the terminal. A full-circle New York moment.
You had Tim Cook in the room, invited guests, a few celebrity sightings… and then the rest of us, regular commuters who just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
And there she was. Effortless. Beautiful. Sitting at that pink piano like it belonged there.
People slowed down. Phones came out. And for a few minutes, the rush hour softened.
Also, quick thing to know if you ever want to sound like you’ve been in this city forever… it’s called a terminal because Metro-North Railroad trains end there. A station is just along the way. This is where the line stops.
And Grand Central has always had a little music in it. Carly Simon was singing about it long before we were standing in it, and then you’ve got moments like John Legend turning Vanderbilt Hall into a full concert in the middle of rush hour.
There’s something about a free performance on your way home that feels… like the city gave you a little something extra.
And honestly, it’s a reminder to step outside of our usual bubbles every now and then… because you really never know who—or what—you might run into.
#2 - The Great Carrot Cake Chase (Westchester Edition)
After reading a Hudson Valley piece by Alicia Higgins and Kayla Sexton, all it took was a little curiosity and next thing you know I’m driving through Westchester County on a mission.
One bakery turned into three. Three turned into “well, I’ve come this far…”
And somewhere along the way, it stopped being about the cake.
It became about the quiet. The solo time. The kind of reset you don’t schedule but somehow needed.
I’ll share the full breakdown in Notes from Dinner this Sunday, including rankings, strong opinions, and who I think deserves the crown.
#3 -Twi Club on TikTok… And The Kind of Room We All Needed Growing Up
I didn’t go because it was hosted in the UK. Darn it! But once I saw it on TikTok… and watch a couple of videos, I was entertained and hooked one hour later.
A room full of people learning Twi together like it’s a live show. Laughing, repeating, getting it wrong, trying again.
No judgment.
And I couldn’t stop thinking about how many of us stopped trying to learn something new the moment someone laughed or ridiculed what we were doing.
That kind of moment will shut you down quickly.
So seeing people learn out loud, together, without anyone making them feel small? That did something for me. Suddenly, I felt myself saying the words unashamed with my full Yankee accent the phrases I’ve known all my life.
If New York has anything like this, please let me know. I’m ready.
No more hiding behind “I understand but don’t speak the language.”
“Fa me ka wo ho oo.”
#4 - Spring Is Coming… Let’s Act Like It
Spring is close. You can feel it trying. And soon enough, we’ll all be outside like we’ve been waiting for this moment… because we have.
But before the outfits fully step outside, this is the season where you refine your style.
Because nothing feels more put together than a woman who knows what works for her. Not following every trend. Just stepping out like, “this is me.”
Right now, I’m on the hunt for the perfect white mule. Clean. simple. effortless.
I’ve got a few options in mind… what do you think? I’ll report back next week.

#5 - Let’s Talk Money… Because Being Legendary Requires It
I was talking to a friend who was excited about her susu payout and her tax return. She already had plans for it. So I asked what high-yield savings account she was using.
The pause that followed…
And honestly, I get it. Because money is a language. And a lot of us were never taught how to speak it.
But how are we becoming legendary if our money is just sitting there doing nothing?
Be honest. How many of us have money sitting in a checking or regular savings account earning almost no interest?
Meanwhile, we’re out here working every single day. Our money should be doing the same. That’s why a great place to start is a high-yield savings account (HYSA) available through your bank or online. There are several solid options with interest rates ranging from 3% to 4%.
And I know it might not feel life-changing at first, but here’s what I want you to sit with: imagine that same interest quietly working for you over the years, while you’re also contributing to it monthly. That’s real, steady growth and it beats stashing cash under a mattress every single time.
At the time of posting, here are a few High-yield savings account options worth exploring:
Before you open one, look at:
the interest rate
fees (or lack of them)
how easily you can access your money
and FDIC protection
Start where you are. Start small if you need to. Just don’t leave your money sitting still.
Some weeks aren’t about big wins. They’re about paying attention. And if you’re doing it right…you’re not just moving through life.
You’re becoming legendary.
