My mother always says, “It starts with a drop of water to form a mighty ocean.” And isn’t that the truth?
For many of us, stepping into the role of main character in our own story can feel... awkward. Maybe even selfish. We’ve been taught to serve, to show up for everyone else often at the cost of ourselves.
But here’s the twist: that mindset? It’s tired. It's retired. And it’s time we rewrite that script.
I know how hard it is, trust me, to break away from the "busy badge of honor" and pour back into your own cup. Traveling solo, prioritizing joy, choosing yourself... it all feels like climbing Everest with a tote bag.
But what if we started small? A daily intention. A weekly joy. A teeny, tiny drop. And before you know it, you’re sipping wine on a balcony in the south of France, writing love notes to your future self.
So—who’s in it for the long game? The joy game? The Romanticizing Your Life game?
Raise your hands (mentally counts too), and let’s start with this week’s list:
1. A Great Audiobook
Don’t tell me you don’t have time to read. Audible exists, and you’ve got ears. Whether you're on the train, in a lunch line, whispering sweet nothings to your Peloton, or dodging cart traffic in Costco, you can be reading. Hit play, and boom, you’re educated, inspired, and multitasking like the queen you are. I highly recommend Mastering the Skill of Reinvention by Pamela Mitchell. Talk about reinvention, well this where we start.
2. Setting Spray
Yes, setting spray. Trust me, nothing says “I’ve got my life together” like makeup that stays put. I swear by L'Oréal’s (not sponsored—but I’m open to it, L'Oréal). With warmer days flirting with us, this spray will keep your glam locked down. Because your foundation should not be having a meltdown by 2 p.m.
3. Walking
You know I was coming for you with this one. If you haven’t started walking yet, let this be your divine, neon, Beyoncé-in-the-Super-Bowl sign. Grab a friend, a podcast, or your deep thoughts, and just go. Even a lap around your office building counts. One foot in front of the other, darling—you’re literally stepping into your soft life.
4. Eating Enough Protein
Sis, we need the muscle to keep up with the magic. I’m not saying go full bodybuilder, but protein is your backstage pass to glowing, growing, and sustaining. I’ve swapped croissants (okay, some croissants) for scrambled eggs and added Ratio Vanilla Yogurt + almonds into my snack game. It’s giving: balanced. It’s giving: nourished. It’s giving: grown woman goals.
5. Call a Loved One
And no, not the one you just talked to this morning. Reach out to someone you haven’t chatted with in six months. Too awkward? Start small. Send a meme. A reel. A “this made me think of you.” Because healing, connection, and unexpected laughter over FaceTime all count as connection too.
